Privacy Policy

Accounts
Signing in uses Google OAuth. We don't operate our own password database or user store — Google authenticates you, and we receive your name, email, and profile picture from Google to show in the app. Your account's stable Google id is what test history and the downtime journal are tied to when you're signed in, instead of your IP address (see "Why not IP-based" further down).
Advertising
Pages other than the speed test itself (About, History, Downtime Journal, Dashboard, Result) may show ads served by Google AdSense — this is how the tool is funded. Ads only load if you accept optional cookies on the banner; if you reject, no ad script loads and you'll see an empty placeholder instead. AdSense may use cookies and your IP address to select and measure ads; see Google's advertising policy for details, including how to opt out of personalized ads directly with Google. We never load AdSense on the speed test page, so ads can't consume bandwidth during a measurement.
What data is involved, and why
| Data | Where it goes | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Your IP address | Cloudflare (speed.cloudflare.com) and ipapi.co | Required to run any download/upload/latency test, and to look up your ISP name and approximate location. |
| Approximate location (city-level, from IP) | ipapi.co | Shown to you as your detected location and used as a fallback point on the globe if GPS isn't granted. |
| Precise device location (GPS) | Stays in your browser — plotted on the globe locally | Only requested if you grant your browser's location permission; never sent to us or transmitted anywhere by this app. |
| Test payload traffic (download/upload bytes) | Cloudflare (speed.cloudflare.com) | The actual bandwidth measurement — real HTTP transfers, not simulated. |
| Cookie consent choice | Stored only in your browser (cookie) | So we don't ask you again every visit. |
| Language preference | Stored only in your browser (cookie), only if you accepted cookies | Remembers your chosen language across visits. |
| Name, email, profile picture | Received from Google if you sign in | Shown in the app (header, dashboard) and used as your account identity for history/downtime. |
| Ad requests (on content pages only) | Google AdSense | Serves and measures ads to fund the tool — only loads if you accepted optional cookies, never on the speed test page. |
Third parties we send requests to
- Cloudflare — the download/upload/latency measurement runs against Cloudflare's public speed-test endpoints. We explicitly disable Cloudflare's own aggregate results-logging option in our integration (
logAimApiUrl: null), but Cloudflare, as the operator of that infrastructure, still sees the requests and your IP address as part of serving them — see Cloudflare's privacy policy. - ipapi.co — used to resolve your IP address to an ISP name and approximate location, for the "Provider," "Your IP," and fallback-location display. See ipapi.co's privacy policy.
- Google (Sign-In) — if you sign in, authentication is handled entirely by Google; we never see or store a password. See Google's privacy policy.
- Google AdSense — serves ads on content pages (never the speed test page) if you've accepted optional cookies. See Google's advertising policy.
No test data, IP address, or location is sent to any server we operate — this app has no backend of its own for storing your results.
Cookies
We set two first-party cookies ourselves:
netv_cookie_consent— essential; records whether you accepted or rejected optional cookies. Expires after 1 year.netv_language— optional; stores your selected display language. Only set if you clicked "Accept all" on the cookie banner. Expires after 1 year.
If you sign in, Google's NextAuth session cookie is also set — this is essential for staying signed in and isn't affected by the optional-cookie choice below. If you accept optional cookies, Google AdSense may also set its own third-party cookies on content pages to select and measure ads; these are Google's, not ours — see their cookie policy for what they set and how to manage it. If you reject optional cookies, AdSense never loads, so none of its cookies are set. You can clear any of these at any time via your browser's cookie settings, or by rejecting cookies on our banner, which immediately deletes our own language cookie and stops loading ads.
Your choices
- Location permission (GPS) is entirely optional and can be denied — the test and provider/IP lookup still work without it.
- You can reject optional cookies at any time from the banner shown on first visit.
- Clearing your browser's cookies for this site resets both stored preferences.
Changes to this policy
If what this app sends to third parties changes, this page will be updated accordingly.
